Growing up with the love of horses all my life and living in town where we could not have horses, my heart yearned for them,so bad that when given the chance to get one I did. I still have him; he will be 27 this year. He is a big Buckskin gelding named Amtrack. We have been best friends for 25 years. We have been through alot but we have made it together. Every one has learned to ride on him and up until 2 years ago he was happy to show them .Now getting older, he just wants to be everyone’s best friend.
And looks very good for his age. This picture was taken at 26 years.
We moved to the beautiful sunny Yakima Valley in Washington state in 2000 and have loved every minute of it. With more things to do here then we have time, we could not be any happier.
I got into the miniatures in 1999, I bought a gorgeous Bay Shetland mare and when I went to pick her up ended up with 2, you know how that goes, go to get one and come back with two, what the heck, there are two sides to the trailer, might as well fill it up. Anyway I went to my first show with my one beautiful Shetland mare and there were only 2 classes to put her in. Most of them were for minis, so it was time to go mini shopping. Love to shop for horses. I found a bulletin board at the show that had some for sale .The next weekend I went to Goldendale and of course not being able to only buy one, I bought 2 .A bay miniature mare and a 3 month old colt. Our first show was at Ellensburg, so off we went. Not having ever shown in my life. The miniature people were wonderful, I did not know one of them but after being there only one day I knew most of them. They all helped me get my new bay mare ready for our first class. And we placed !!!! , Out of 14 horses we got a 5th, I was so happy .I was hooked! And it was all because of my new friends..
We are all friends still and I make new ones every time I go to a show. Sometimes I see some one at the show that looked just like I must have looked, scared and looking for help. I try my best to help, because I know how they feel. Soon they will be just like me ,with all my mini friends, so I will always be there to help.
In 2004 my husband had a bad accident and is now disabled at 41 years old and I lost my job. So with me in school and him trying to recover as best as he can, we push on.
I only have 6 months left of school and then back in the work force, can’t wait, I am tired of being broke. I have not been able to go to a show or show in 3 years. And I am ready!!!. So I hope to go to at least 2 this year and see all my very good friends, I miss them so.
So watch for me in 2007 I will be there, I will be the one that with the biggest smile on my face and the helping hand for those that need it. Jody
